Amends refer to making reparations or making right the wrongs that we have committed in our past, particularly those related to our addictive behavior, or the harm caused to others due to our actions.
Step Nine of the Twelve Steps states: "Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others." This step encourages us to take responsibility for our actions, acknowledge the harm we have caused, and take appropriate actions to make restitution and repair relationships whenever possible. It involves humility, accountability, and a sincere effort to right the wrongs of the past.
It's important to note that the concept of amends is not just about apologizing or saying sorry; it often involves taking concrete actions to rectify the harm done and demonstrate a genuine commitment to change.
